A Tribute to Friends of the Past
In cloaks and clothes of yesteryear they stand,
With swords at sides, and at their lips, a song;
Their tales are grand -- but wait, and understand
The truer tale: the truth that they belong.
A common love for things that time passed by
Has bound these fools and fighters here as friends.
With whom can these outcasts identify
But others who have cast out worldly trends?
Remember now the virtues we forgot;
Chivalric codes and noble knights are gone,
But brotherhood, honor, and strength are not --
The traditions of love and light live on.
Let us now vow through future years to be
Friends for our lives, and through eternity!

This poem is dedicated to The Quill and the Sword, as well as to all my
friends from the Renaissance Faires and Dickens Faires at home. Thanks also
to my mother and sister who introduced me to the Faires, and all the
fantastic folk I've met there. Huzzah!
Return to the Present.
Footnotes:
*This isn't my first sonnet, but I believe it's the first one that actually has iambic pentameter. Keen, no?
